a rant about allergies (i know..."again" right?)

this is entirely too true

i have been looked at like i'm insane. have heard "oh wow" in that tone that means that human did NOT believe a thing i just said about reed's allergies
i've seen peoples eyes glaze over and the regret on their face for asking questions about reeds life threatening food allergies
don't ask if you're going to stand there and stare at me like i'm the stupid one
don't get mad at me for not coming out to eat with you when you ask because i know how dangerous most places are
don't get mad when i leave your house early because there is just too much around that he's allergic to and i'm about to have a panic attack
don't get mad when i don't come over because i just can't handle the stress of following him around making sure nobody feeds him

feeding reed is a full time job
allergy food can either be disgusting or it can be delicious
most people would probably look at his plate and say "thats nasty. why would you make him eat that"
there is nothing wrong with banana slices rolled in flax meal, or chicken for breakfast, or sunflower seed butter on homemade molassas wheat bread.

the goal here is to not create a new allergy by feeding him the same thing over and over and since his choices are limited this is quite a challenge

and since i refuse to buy premade "allergy free" food that makes it even harder
but seriously, if something says "parmesan flavored" and is dairy free it should not be consumed
something is seriously wrong with this

when i talk about the allergy food reed eats i'm talking coconut milk, coconut oil, flax meal, things like that. replacements for ingredients. not butter flavored non dairy something or other. whats even in that? who knows. most likely a ton of soy.

so, if you are an allergy mom too, read through some of my recipes and get some ideas. don't just buy a box of food that has a list of unpronounceable ingredients and a list on the side that says "corn free, dairy free, caisin free, egg free, wheat free, gluten free, sugar free, nut free, legume free, seed free, fat free, soy free, meat free, fish free, fruit free, vegan...." because seriously...what else is left thats a real food?
